The Challenge

A global real-estate advisory firm needed office surveillance that met corporate expectations: long recording retention for audits and investigations, enterprise-grade cabling, and a backbone that could grow with the office without replacing the recorder.

The Solution

• Cameras: six Hikvision 2MP IP dome cameras covering entrances and key interior zones.
• Recording: a Hikvision 32-channel NVR with 8 SATA bays, populated with six Seagate 10 TB surveillance drives for 60 TB of raw storage.
• Network: a D-Link DGS-1210-28MP 24-port gigabit PoE managed switch.
• Cabling: AMP CAT6 network cabling with conduit and laying, approximately 610 m.
• Services: full installation, configuration, testing and commissioning.

Design Rationale

• Retention first: corporate security and compliance teams often need weeks or months of footage rather than days, so storage was prioritised over camera count.
• Built-in headroom: a 32-channel NVR and a 24-port PoE switch leave room to add cameras without a forklift upgrade.
• Premium passive infrastructure: AMP cabling gives a reliable base for the system’s whole lifetime.

The Results

• Long retention ready for audits and incident review.
• Capacity for 26 more cameras on the same recorder.
• A managed, PoE-powered network that the IT team can monitor and maintain.

What Was Delivered

Conclusion

Six cameras and sixty terabytes looks lopsided until you consider what a corporate security team is actually asked for: not more angles, but older footage. Sizing the recorder and the drives around a retention policy — and leaving most of the channels empty on purpose — is what makes the system useful in year three as well as week one.
