Slow manual counts
Barcode or paper counts take hours, so they happen rarely — and the stock data is stale the day after it is taken.
TagScout is an Android RFID inventory application developed by SNA Infotech. It pairs with any Bluetooth UHF reader sled and turns a standard phone into a tool that can read hundreds of tagged items at once — which is why a stock count that used to occupy a team for an evening now takes one person half an hour.
Most RFID offers in the market are either software from a company that has never manufactured a tag, or hardware from a company with no application to run on it. We do both. The tags come off our own line at Vasai, the app is ours, and the implementation team is in Mumbai. When a tag does not read on a particular material, there is one company to call and it already knows the answer.
It is in production for retail store operations, store security and warehouse management, and it starts with a free two-week pilot on your own stock.
Whatever the industry, businesses that hold stock describe the same four problems. Which one hurts most usually decides where an RFID rollout should start.
Barcode or paper counts take hours, so they happen rarely — and the stock data is stale the day after it is taken.
Typical manual accuracy runs at 85–90%. Every error is either a lost sale or stock you paid for and cannot find.
Items leave the door unnoticed, and the loss only surfaces at the next audit — by which point nobody knows what went or when.
Managers cannot see what is where, in which rack, bin or store, at the moment they need to answer the question.
Four parts, and you do not need all four on day one. Most customers start with tags and the handheld app, then add fixed readers where automatic reading earns its keep.
Every item carries a tag. Hundreds are read at once, with no line of sight — which is the whole reason a count that took hours now takes minutes. We manufacture the tags ourselves.
TagScout runs on any Android phone paired with a Bluetooth UHF reader sled. No proprietary terminal, so the hardware cost is a phone rather than a rugged device at several times the price.
Mounted at shop doors and warehouse dock gates to read movement automatically, with no one scanning anything.
Live stock, locations, movements and alerts in a browser, so head office sees the same picture as the floor.
Know what is on the shelf, what is in the backroom and what is on its way — at any moment, not at the next stocktake. This is the use case that works for any store carrying many SKUs: apparel, footwear, jewellery, opticians, electronics.
Cycle counts drop from hours to under thirty minutes, so they happen weekly instead of quarterly. Stock accuracy moves from roughly 85–90% to 99% and above. And the lost sales that came from an "out of stock" item that was actually sitting in the backroom largely stop happening.
A fixed RFID reader at the door flags unpaid items as they leave. The difference from a conventional anti-theft tag is worth stating plainly: a standard EAS gate tells you that something went through. TagScout tells you what — the item, down to the SKU.
Every item carries an RFID tag from the moment it arrives.
At billing, the item is marked as sold.
The door reader sees any unsold tag passing through.
Staff get an instant alert naming exactly which item it was.
Because the same tag serves both jobs, you are not tagging stock twice or paying for two systems. One tag, two jobs — which is the argument that usually lands with jewellery and high-value retail.
Track every item from inbound to dispatch — receiving, putaway, storage, picking, dispatch — rack by rack and bin by bin.
Inbound and outbound cartons are read automatically as they pass the gate. Nobody scans anything, so nobody forgets to.
Every item is linked to a rack and bin, so "where is it" becomes a query rather than a search party.
Real-time stock, movement history and cycle-count status, visible to managers without walking the floor.
Built for third-party logistics, distribution, manufacturing stores and pharma. ERP and Tally integration is available as an add-on so the movements post where your finance and planning already live.
Six functions, built around what people doing a count or an audit actually need rather than a feature list.
| Function | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Quick Scan | Scan and identify tags live, with read rate, unique count and signal strength per tag. |
| Inventory by File | Load an expected stock list and watch it match against what is actually in the room, flagging both missing items and unexpected tags. |
| Write Tag | Find a target tag and rewrite its EPC, with an optional access password. |
| Kill Tag | Permanently disable a tag when an item leaves the system for good. |
| Connect Device | Pair, save and switch between readers; the app remembers the ones you use. |
| Device Config | Antenna strength, buzzer level, sleep timeout and firmware updates from inside the app. |
A rugged RFID terminal costs somewhere between ₹30,000 and ₹50,000. An Android phone that runs TagScout with a reader sled costs a fraction of that, and if it is dropped you replace a phone.
On a single-store trial the difference is modest. On a twenty-user rollout across branches, it is usually the difference between a project that gets approved and one that does not.
Store counts, omnichannel stock accuracy and loss prevention across many SKUs and sizes.
Daily counts, vault-to-display tracking and item-level theft alerts on high-value stock.
Inbound receiving, putaway, picking and dispatch, with rack and bin level location.
Batch and expiry tracking, and cold-chain stock that has to be accounted for precisely.
Raw material, work in progress and finished goods tracked through the plant.
Walmart-compliant source tagging and carton verification before a container ships.
Any Android phone, multiple reader brands. You are not tied to one manufacturer's roadmap or pricing.
Affordable phones instead of rugged terminals at ₹30,000–50,000 each. On a twenty-user rollout that difference is the project budget.
SNA Infotech manufactures the labels and tags. One partner for software, hardware and consumables — and no finger-pointing when something does not read.
A Mumbai-based team with 30+ years in AIDC and labelling, not a reseller passing tickets to a vendor abroad.
An Android phone running Android 8.0 or later, and a Bluetooth UHF RFID reader sled. That is the whole handheld setup. Fixed readers are added only where you want automatic reading — shop doors for security, dock gates for warehouse movement.
No. TagScout pairs with Bluetooth UHF readers from several manufacturers, which is deliberate — it keeps you free to buy on price and availability. We will supply and support readers if you want a single point of contact, and we can tell you which models we have run in production.
Customers typically move from around 85–90% accuracy on manual counts to 99% and above, and a full store count drops from hours to under thirty minutes. The honest caveat is that RFID accuracy depends on tagging discipline and on the material — metal and liquids need on-metal or specialised tags, which we manufacture.
Yes, as an integration. Stock lists import and export to Excel out of the box, and we build ERP and Tally integrations as an add-on so counts and movements post into the system you already run.
A conventional EAS tag tells you that something went through the door. An RFID tag tells you what it was — the item, the size, the SKU. And the same tag does both jobs: it is your security tag and your inventory tag, so you are not tagging stock twice.
We tag a section of your store or warehouse, set TagScout up on it, and run a count before and after so you can see the numbers on your own stock rather than ours. It runs about two weeks and costs nothing. If the numbers do not convince you, there is nothing to unwind.
SNA Infotech, in Mumbai. It is our own product, developed under our UHF Labs RFID practice, which also manufactures the tags — see barcode & RFID solutions for the wider practice.
We tag a section of your store or warehouse, set TagScout up on it, and show you the before-and-after numbers on your own stock. Two weeks, no cost, and nothing to unwind if the numbers do not convince you.
Serving Mumbai customers since 1989, with our own well equipped support staff, OEM-authorised service and two offices in Andheri and Vasai. Pick whichever is easiest — a demo, an itemised quotation, or a free consultation with no obligation.
